Then and almost now.

Mary Tamm played the better looking and first Romana on Doctor Who. I must confess that I’ve never been particularly found of either Romana, but Tamm’s character is still in the upper echelon of companions to be sure as she was there for the Key of Time episodes. As far as I can tell, I’ve never seen her in anything outside of Doctor Who, but that’s more than enough. Perhaps as a result, it was difficult finding a decent, recent shot. So, I decided to do a not really now and then for the picture.

Tamm is 57.

Other birthdays: Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Q, and Naomi Campbell.

Haven’t watched the older episodes. How did they explain having 2 girls? I can understand that the Doctor changes, but how does his companion?

Well, she was a Timelord too. Back in the day, The Doctor interacted a great deal more with his home planet than he does now. In the current version of the show, The Doctor is under the impression that all of his people died in a great Time War. Yet, the enemies of that war, who he also believed to be dead (the Daleks) continue to pop up here and there.

It stands to reason that at least some of the other Timelords might have made it out. I am especially hopeful that his nemesis, The Master, is one.

Back to the original question, The Doctor was unwillingly the president of Gallifrey (his home planet) and tried his best to avoid any of the duties and restrictions of the office. Romana was a young pompous, academy graduate who went with The Doctor to try to find the various fragments of the Key of Time. It encompassed 6 episodes which was the entire season. The old episodes varied in length, but were substantially longer than the current version of the show.

Wow, I think I missed quite a bit of back story with just starting at the new seasons. OH well. I”ll just go back and watch the others some day when I’m bored.

I’m into season 2 now. I do like these 2 together. And I”m totally into David Tennant as Dr. Who. He’s fantastic!

Yeah, Tennant is probably my favorite Doctor of all time, and that is saying something.

I wouldn’t expect you to know much of anything from the original show, because they only mention back story elements when necessary for the new shows. I can’t recall exactly, but I think much of the Time War information is slipped in the second season. They really don’t say much about what happened, except for one or two key things.

Can we get a copy of season 2? The kids really want to watch it, and I don’t want them using my laptop. Call me crazy, but they don’t have a good track record :)

I could send you a copy, but I thought the dvd copies I send you guys don’t work on your DVD player? Let me know if they do or not. Brent should have a couple of discs I made from The Civil War series. You could test those on your player to find out if they work.
