Ben Stiller

November 30, 2006

Ben and his lovely wife in the background.

Ben Stiller had to be my choice today, but there were a lot of worthy candidates.  I think I like Stiller’s comedies more than I like him.  In other words, I think he is best utilized as a director, writer, and secondary character than as a lead.  I have liked tons of his stuff in any capacity, but let’s take a look at his guest spots and secondary characters.

Happy Gilmore, Cable Guy, Heat Vision and Jack (Was a TV pilot with Owen Wilson and Jack Black.  Glad it didn’t take, but it’s friggin’ awesome.), Mystery Men, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, Arrested Development, Extras, The Royal Tenenbaums, Orange County, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.  So, that is seven awesome movies, and guest spots on four of the best TV shows of all time.  Not too shabby.

Now a look at his movies as the lead.

Meet the Parents, Envy, Meet the Fockers, Zoolander, Starsky and Hutch, and There’s Something About Mary.  Most of these are ok, but the movies in which he is one among many, or playing a bit part, are much funnier.  That’s not a knock on Stiller in any way.  His ensemble movies are just better as he interacts well with other actors.  It’s just more fun to see several of my favorite actors on screen at the same time.

He also has Night at the Museum coming out, and is apparently in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny.

Stiller is 41.

Other birthdays: Ridley Scott, David Mamet, Kaley Cuoco, Elisha Cuthbert, Clay Aiken, Bo Jackson, Billy Idol, Mandy Patinkin, G. Gordon Liddy, Dick Clark, and Robert Guillaume.

I think that Elisha Cuthbert was in Weezer’s music video for Perfect Situation. Looks like her anyways.

That appears to be the case. Not a huge Weezer fan. Couldn’t name one song in fact.

I like Weezer cause it’s pretty easy listening. I don’t know too many of their songs by name either. I do know a few though. Oh, did you hear that Metallica is selling a DVD of all of their music videos? I believe they said it will be at Target stores on Dec. 5th.

Yeah, I have been begging for that DVD for a long time. I would even post at the fan club message boards, etc. Finally.
