Harrison Ford

July 13, 2007

From the set of the new film.

Last year at my old blog, I ended up doing a shared birthday with Harrison Ford and Patrick Stewart as they both easily deserve recognition. However, this year I will focus on Harrison Ford as he is returning to the screen as Indiana Jones.

Ford started out doing TV on shows like Gunsmoke, and also worked as a carpenter in Hollywood. He also landed a role in George LucasAmerican Graffiti which lead to his involvement in Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI, and of course the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. During that stretch of time, he also did Force 10 From Navarone, Apocalypse Now, and started into the Indy series with Raiders of the Last Ark before doing Blade Runner. Lucas didn’t want Ford for Indiana Jones because he’d already used him in Star Wars, but Spielberg talked him into it. I think Tom Selleck would have been good, but it wouldn’t quite be the same. Of Course The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade would follow in time.

Ford has done tons of other movies including: Witness, Patriot Games, The Fugitive, Clear and Present Danger, Air Force One, and K-19: The Widowmaker.

He also has several movies in the works including the latest Indiana Jones film, No True Glory: Battle of Fallujah, and Manhunt which is about the hunt for Lincoln’s assassin. Which is interesting given that Spielberg is also doing a film called, Lincoln.

Ford is 65.

Other birthdays: Patrick Stewart, Cheech Marin, Cameron Crowe, and Erno Rubik.
