James Hetfield

August 3, 2007

He wasn't detained under suspicion of terrorism.

James Hetfield is the lead singer, primary lyricist, and rhythm guitarist for Metallica. He has also voiced characters for Dave the Barbarian and Metalocalypse, and he and fellow band member, Kirk Hammett, were on Space Ghost Coast to Coast.  Hetfield also did some singing for one short scene in South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut.

Of course, Hetfield was also an integral component of the award winning documentary, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.  The movie will interest even non-Metallica fans, as it’s a telling and sometimes painful look into the multifaceted lives of the members of the Metallica family as they struggle through a bandmember leaving, Hetfield’s rehab, the band’s subsequent therapy, and the rebirth of Metallica with a new bassist.  While the band has since indicated that much of the dynamic has returned to the way it was prior to the therapy sessions, they insist that the relationships within the band have remained open and honest.

I am really looking forward to hearing the influence of “new” bassist, Robert Trujillo, and legendary producer, Rick Rubin as Metallica is looking to release their newest studio effort in early 2008.

Hetfield is 44.

Other birthdays: John C. McGinley, John Landis, Mathieu Kassovitz, Evangeline Lilly, Tony Bennett, Martin Sheen, Lambert Wilson, Tom Brady, Martha Stewart, and Isaiah Washington.
