Forget Jena 6

December 6, 2007

Girl, 7, shot 6 times saving mom – This story is amazing for a couple of reasons. Primarily, because the little girl saved her mother, but also because the abducted black woman was told by 911 that no cars could be dispatched, but when the tangentially involved Muslim calls, a car is dispatched and arrives within a minute. I realize there may be nothing of merit to these throw away comments in the story, but given that it takes place in Detroit, I somehow think it’s indicative of a larger problem.

GeneTree – I saw this on a news report a couple of nights ago, and was intrigued. The company is owned by an LDS businessman who wanted to show through genetics that everyone was basically the same. The idea is that people supply some of their DNA via a mouthwash and swab, and then the DNA is analyzed to determine the ancestry of the person throughout known history. I’m not making it sound nearly as cool as it looked in the segment. If I’m not mistaken, you can get your DNA analyzed for $150.

Apple’s rising popularity lures hackers – Duh. I hope they are crippled. Go, hackers, go.

Gibson shows new self-tuning guitar – This is awesome.

Ray Park Cast as Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe movie – Of course, the movie is likely to suck big ones, but it’s nice to see Darth Maul get work.

When Insults Had Class – Some of these are kind of lame (I’m looking at you Robert Redford), but the Churchill quotes are awesome.

I have to link to this one as opposed to embedding it, but I thought the demo was kind of interesting. It displays a couple of developing 3D interactive technologies. Here is the link.

This is the Indian version of Thriller. Wow:

Wow, that’s some story about the girl and her mother. So sad. You’d think if you called the police and said that you had been abducted, that they’d show up. Nice.

We stumbled across some Darth Vader movies the other day, and loved them. The kids whanted to know if you had seen them. Chad Vader. I was pretty sure you had, but they wanted me to ask, just the same. So funny.

Hehe, yeah, the Chad Vader late-night grocery store manager? Those are pretty funny.

As for the 911 thingy, it’s possible there was more to the story, or rather less to the story in that regards. As far as I am aware, no one has raised a stink about the situation. Then again, that could just be because it’s so common that no one cares. Who knows.
