Cards/Mets Game

July 2, 2008

Lewis was able to get several tickets in the Coca-Cola luxury box (just to the 1st base side of home) at Busch Stadium for last night’s game, and was gracious enough to invite us along.  It was a beautiful night for a game as the temperature was in the low 80s, and was only slightly muggy for St. Louis in July.  I took a few pictures of the action.  Here’s a view from the box before the start of the game:

That's about where Ankiel's shot landed if I'm not mistaken.

Todd Wellemeyer started his second game after coming off the DL.  It was an improvement on his prior start, but the Mets still punished the ball while he was in the game.  It’s amazing the score wasn’t much worse than the 7-4 finish.

Maybe he will be sharp in his next start.

We ended up seeing a lot of this situation.

The mets had a lot of hits.

There were some positives to be sure.  Molina threw Reyes out at second on an attempted steal in the first, and then was able to catch the man on third in a rundown when the ball bounced right back to him from the backstop after a wild pitch.  Ankiel also made a nice diving catch in center, and hit a two-run homer in the bottom half of the 1st.  Here he is at the plate during that at bat.

That was number 16.

After that, however, the Cardinals pretty much shut down offensively.  They added a couple more runs, but otherwise were fairly stale at the plate.  It was still a fun game.  A win would have been nice, but what can you do.

Watch out, Skip.
