Manny Ramirez in Cardinal red?

January 30, 2009

What do you say, Manny?

What do you say, Manny?

If Pujols had his way, yes.

For the record, I’m not a Manny Ramirez fan. I think he is easily one of the best hitters in baseball, but I hate his apparent disregard for all things classy. That said, I was surprised we didn’t see any antics from him after his trade to the Dodgers last season. He behaved remarkably well in the National League setting.

How dangerous would the Cardinals be with a Pujols/Ramirez lineup though? Man. It boggles the mind. I would be willing to clean the slate for Manny if he indeed gave the Cardinals a significant discount.

This seems unlikely however, as the Cardinals already have a crowded outfield, and seem unlikely to ante up the massive amounts of dough Manny could command. Still, a Ramirez, Ankiel, Ludwick outfield doesn’t sound too bad. If Skip could move to 2nd (assuming Kennedy doesn’t win the job outright to say nothing of Rasmus perhaps earning a spot as a starter) as has been discussed, the lineup looks pretty potent :

Schumaker (assuming he can play 2nd in the majors)

Manny Ramirez is without a doubt an undeniably talented player. St. Louis is without a doubt an undeniably talented ball club, with the right motivation. Enter Ramirez. The Cards have struggled with both injuries, and the unfortunate onslought of rollercoaster pitching. Enter a healthy Carpenter. With a feel good comfortable starting pitcher coming back from what seems like a decade of DL, and talks of signing Manny, this may be the catalyst for another post-season run by St. Louis. If all goes well, and all pieces fit, this may be the team to win the next world series.

That certainly wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
