Story

The Waterboy sees an intellectually slow boy begin a not so illustrious endeavor as a water boy for a college in Mississippi. He is constantly ridiculed until they day he is told to not come back. He seeks out further opportunities for a water boy and lands a “job” with the smaller, rival school. Once there, it is discovered that he is a fierce tackler, and soon finds himself in the thick of the football action. Somewhat unrealistic, but still a great set up for a good laugh.

Cast

Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Fairuza Balk, Henry Winkler, Jerry Reed, Larry Gilliard Jr., Blake Clark, Jonathan Loughran, Clint Howard, Allen Covert, Rob Schneider, Paul Wight, and cameos from: Bill Cowher, Chris Fowler, Jimmy Johnson, Chris Berman, Dan Patrick, Lee Corso, Lawrence Taylor, Lynn Swann, Brent Musburger, and Dan Fouts. Kathy Bates is an amazing actress, and this is perhaps the best all around cast as featured in any of Sandler’s films.

Soundtrack/Score

My favorite part of the movie is when the Waterboy makes it to the big game at the half, and what great momentum building song do they use, Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.” A great song, and excellently placed in the film. Also have some CCR and Animals action.

Soundtrack/Score = 18

Quote/Catch Phrase

“Compliments of Captain Insano.” “That’s some high quality H2O.” “Visualize and attack.” “Something’s wrong with his Obdulla Oblongata.” “He’s the best tackler I’ve seen since Joe Montanta,” etc. and so on. It’s a Sandler comedy. There are going to be some great lines.

Rewatchability

This has become one of my favorite football movies of all time. If you like Sandler it’s a guaranteed smash. Then again, if you like Sandler, you probably have already seen this several times over.

I like Sandler, what can I say?

(EDIT from 2009 – I couldn’t find the trailer, but here is a nice clip)
